Artist Statement

Hi. I’m J Myers.

I’ve been creating art since I was a teenager. From drawing and sculpture in high school to photography, painting and mixed media in my 20’s and 30’s. I’ve had my photographs published in ‘Black and White’ magazine in the late 90’s and very fondly remember entering my first proper juried art show in the city of St Augustine, Florida in 2000.

Many artists are ‘introverts’, so I was hesitant to show my work to the world back then, but winning an award in that first show gave me the confidence to continue to create and to submit my art to various galleries and shows around the U.S. for the next decade or so.

Since then, I’ve been quite prolific and have expanded the range of materials with which I enjoy working. I would definitely call my work eclectic, as I find freedom in using different media to express myself.

My wife of nearly 30 years says she feels proud whenever she looks around our home and spies so many items I’ve made – from furniture to bookshelf pieces to paintings to larger sculptures. However, my home is now over-flowing and I do hope you’ll find something that you’d like to see in YOUR home as you explore my site.
